Is Ted Cruz The Republican Obama?

Bear with me please.  Barack Obama stormed the castle in 2008.  He conquered the dragon – and no one saw it coming – well, perhaps Dick Durban.  But everyone today concedes that Obama is a masterful politician.  Like him or not, agree with him or not, Obama came to play hardball.  He came with masterful […]

The Gun Control Debate is no Longer About Guns

The vitriolic language from the far right over Second Amendment rights tells a story beyond the fear of losing the right to a thirty round clip in the favorite 9mm semi-automatic hand gun.  This debate is not about guns – this debate is about fear of government.  That is one way to say it – […]

Lt. Gen. Boykin Conservative Video and Response

YIKES!!!!  Check out the video and a response by a thoughtful man in Virginia.     The following diatribe was cut from a conservative email floating around the country – this is an example oof how really crazy some people are – We are not talking about a healthy think-outside-the-box crazy – but dangerous crazy. Here […]

Drop Secret Service Protection, Arm The Candidates

FOX News is making a big toot about a recent law that bans protesting within a certain distance from anyone who is protected by the Secret Service.  FOX is proud to note that “Obama signed the Law” – as if the President acts alone in passing laws.  The Republican House passed the law.  The Democratic […]

An Open Letter To Obama Haters

Once again my friend Herb Shane has posted something on facebook that is so well done that I am compelled to cut and paste it into a post on this site.  Thanks Herb.   Open letter to the Obama Haters: To your distress, for most of the rest of your life, you will bear this: […]

“…a false sense of urgency.”

We are worn out from GOP primary fatigue.  Is that redundant?  Doctor John Sharp, Harvard Medical School psychiatrist and  author of The Emotional Challenge, recently said, “…fatigue dis-emboldens us.”  The 21st Century has proven to be fast and furious.  War is present.  Facebook dominates.  Ipad, ipod, smart phones, wi if, financial upheaval – economic uncertainty, […]

Why We Continue to Support Our President

President Obama had a news conference last week.  He talked sincerely about the state of our economy.  We agree with him.  We believe that the partisan politics in Washington is as responsible for the down economy as any other given factor. We really do find ourselves in a chicken-and-egg scenario. Current budget projections are based […]

The Obama Doctrine – Think, Feel, Act

There is a new sheriff in town.  He has decided to round up the rascals in Lybia.  President Obama is not inclined to act on feelings of insecurity – as we witnessed in the immediate past Administration.  Presidential Doctrine has been a subject of debate for about as long as there have been Presidents.  We […]

Searching for Honesty and Integrity in Nationally Known Politicians

Sometimes I just write satire, or just sarcasm.   The folly of national politics seems somehow unworthy of serious commentary.  But however foolish the politicians seem – the business of our government is serious.  Real people are directly and immediately impacted by political decisions.  Real wars are fought.  Real soldiers die.  Real debt is incurred.   Generations […]

Of Wars and Politics – Patraeus and Obama

War is a mystic business.   Mystic because there seems some supernatural quality required for agreement on strategy.  September 11, 2001, defined a moment – a moment of political cohesion.  Pearl Harbor served that role in WWII.  The Lusitania was the protagonist in WWI.  The battleship Maine served the focal point of the Spanish American War […]

The Cold Blooded, Calculated, Leadership of President Obama

President Obama is a surprise to almost everyone.  From his emotionally charged dynamic election speeches to his staggering military assault on terrorist supporters in Afghanistan – Barack Obama has proven that he can and will make tough decisions.  His decisions are not based on emotion, not based on Democratic Party platforms, and not based on […]

Obama’s American Revolution – 2010

We are ready.  We are ready for change.  We are ready for a Revolution. The American people have already demonstrated a powerful desire for revolution.  Witness the elections of 2006 and 2008.   Democrats have registered to vote in historic numbers.  Barack Obama – a relative unknown – won because he represented the best chance […]

Regaining Respect for the Office of the Presidency.

We, in this country, have a proud history of respect for the office of the President. We rally around those who inspire us and lead us through troubled times. We have worked to separate the man from the office, and we have been successful in the past. There have always been jokes about the President, and comedians are supposed to push the envelope, to go where you don’t expect them to go. Something has changed, however, in the last decade. Where there was once reverence for the office and a certain degree of respect for the man in the White House, there is now complacency about the treatment of the Presidency. In previous generations, bad jokes about the President would have been met with a frown or, at best, a nervous chuckle. But today, the Presidency is the bread and butter of late night routines and gets only slightly better treatment in the mainstream media.

Obama To Appoint Tina Fey To Supreme Court

Have you ever actually read a Supreme Court ruling?  Those stuffy old people are really boring.  Most of us don’t get what they are talking about – so we are left to our politicians to interpret for us.  That will no longer be the case when Obama appoints Tina Fey to the Supreme Court. Even […]

Racists and Birthers Are Not Just Dim-Witted Rednecks

In 1776 immigration was unchecked in the American colonies.  The people living here decided to form their own government and bypass the King’s tax man.  Those folks wrote some rules that defined our form of Government and who was eligible to hold office.  The President had to be a natural born citizen – meaning that […]

Obama, Oil, And Rational Leadership

I wanted a new car – but I didn’t have the money.  I wanted to go skiing at Aspen – but I didn’t have the money.  I bought a good used car for cash and drove it to the local Missouri ski slopes.  I am relaxing today with my feet immersed in hot salt water […]
