Hammering Bill Cosby

Judd Apatow is a comedian – with skills perhaps not equal to Bill Cosby – but astoundingly accurate when portraying the beleaguered comedian. Apatow uses Cosby’s own style to hammer home a point – a point that must be made. This routine is entirely appropriate and dead on: Here is the link

thefiresidepost.com is officially one site that can make recommendations on major entertainment and political personnel.  Here is our recommendation for the 2010 Dancing with the Stars roster. Dancing With The Stars is an entertaining program.  People from other professions – generally known at least in pop culture if not for professional achievement, are asked to […]

Regaining Respect for the Office of the Presidency.

We, in this country, have a proud history of respect for the office of the President. We rally around those who inspire us and lead us through troubled times. We have worked to separate the man from the office, and we have been successful in the past. There have always been jokes about the President, and comedians are supposed to push the envelope, to go where you don’t expect them to go. Something has changed, however, in the last decade. Where there was once reverence for the office and a certain degree of respect for the man in the White House, there is now complacency about the treatment of the Presidency. In previous generations, bad jokes about the President would have been met with a frown or, at best, a nervous chuckle. But today, the Presidency is the bread and butter of late night routines and gets only slightly better treatment in the mainstream media.

Jay Leno Uses Humor as Defense

Jay Leno has taken some hits this past week.  With his ‘prime time’ show canceled, pulled, and jerked off – Leno is looking to return to the late night carnival circuit.  Pushed out of the game of dominoes is Conan O’Brian.  Conan’s ratings (the true measurement of media) have fallen far behind Dave Letterman.  None […]

The Road to Tyranny – and other ludicrous ideas

The correct place for Shawn Hannity and Michelle Bachman is on Comedy Central. These folks are breaking down with psychotic episodes of paranoia. Fortunately for people like me, Stewart and Colbert help keep this insanity in perspective. We have ranted and blustered at the conservative right wing. Particularly during the election cycle. I am afraid […]

Ann Coulter – an America Tragedy

When Ann Coulter is dismissed or challenged by anyone in the media the radical right claims another attack by the Main Stream Media.  Back and forth bickering that accomplishes nothing other than to continue to polarize America. To be clear up front, this writer has never been a fan of Ann Coulter.  But Ms. Coulter […]

Who’s On First, Abbott and Costello video

Talking movies have been around for less than 100 years. The pioneers of comedy set the stage, if you will, for generations to follow. Abbott and Costello perfected the art of a straight man with a buffoonish clown. Their act “Who’s On First” is a classic that never wears out. Bud Abbott and Lou Costello […]

Robin Williams on American Idol, 4/2008

One has to listen closely and quickly to catch all of the humor offered by Robin Williams. Every time I seen this great talent I try to imagine anyone else in the role and I find there is no one to compare with Robin Williams.. Enjoy.

Lewis Black defends Huckabee

Son Leave Mike Huckabee alone!  Lewis Black is an outrageous comedian who does this superb spoof of Huckabee’s campaign supporters.  Not exactly in the mold of Chuck NOrris – but entertaining never the less.  Black’s ‘Root of All Evil’ series premieres March 12th on Comedy Central. The Lockhorns and the Clintons

Son, I was reading about the Lockhorns today, and I was thinking of the parallels with the imaginary home life of the Clinton Family . Check this caricaturization: It’s four o’clock in the morning, Leroy(Bill), when will you concede? Leroy (Consider Bill): Loretta’s loudmouthed leering husband, Leroy is brash, opinionated and abrasive, but you can’t […]

More Bush Humor

Son, The American People are going to miss George W. Bush. This Presidency has been the source of some really fine humor. Here are a couple of videos. This is a play on the Abbott and Costello ‘Who’s on First’ routine: [wp_youtube]NymAL4_okyQ[/wp_youtube] Here is that great Bush impersonator on Comedy Central with Jeff Foxworthy: [wp_youtube]x-2c6GTXoHE[/wp_youtube] […]

Jon Stewart gives pointers to Ron Paul

Son, Ron Paul did the now required appearance on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show. Jon Stewart was not only gracious but offered some sage advice on managing the other candidates during the debates. They had a civil conversation. Mr. Paul presented well – to my surprise. Mr. Paul noted that the other candidates are not very […]

Looking back – Jon Stewart on Monica Lewinski

Son, Jon Stewart has been around for awhile – and while his brand of humor can be antagonistic – he continues to be respected. Virtually no one attacks Jon Stewart. Why is that? Is it because he is fundamentally correct in his reasoning process? Dad

Stewart on Nevada debate – know when to fold.

Son, Jon Stewart is a great political commentator. His use of humor to point out the obvious that seems to escape the rest of us is unparalleled. I think we see these things but it takes a Jon Stewart to articulate for us what is the source of our uneasiness. Dad
