Mormons – the beginning theology

Mitt Romney has refocused thought on the Mormon Church.  Some evangelicals have problems with the Mormons – and I think they should.  We have to consider the Mormons in a historical context to understand some of their faith positions.  I will attempt to address this topic from memory – we’ll see if I have to […]

Obama Apologies – Appropriate? Or Not?

Does President Obama apologize unnecessarily for America?   President Obama faces the world with legitimate humility, humbled by the embarrassment of the past administration.  President Obama is working hard to remove the plank from our own eye before trying to remove the splinter from adversaries.   We live in a harsh and brutal world, a world of […]

New Ideas From the GOP?

Here we go.  The GOP has showcased three of their finest minds in an attempt to re-brand the old cow.  Jon Stewart is probably the best at highlighting nonsense – or perhaps he just has a great staff with good video editing capabilities.  Let’s check out the new ideas of the Republican re-branding. Check out […]

Obama – Focal Point of Mature Stability

This election was tough.  Hard hitting, loud, boisterous, negative, slanderous, and sometimes mean spirited.  All of us have enjoyed and distressed over the emotional roller coaster.  This was better than any Hitchcock thriller – if tense excitement is what you like.  But the election is over and we are seeing the emotional aftermath.  We can […]

Huckabee’s Choice Words for Romney

By Michael Luo Ah, memories. Among The Caucus’s favorites from campaign days gone by were those from the bitterly cold days of December 2007 preceding the Iowa caucuses, when the silver-tongued Mike Huckabee and his indefatigable sparring partner, Mitt Romney, circled and slashed at each other from dawn until dusk. The episodes are now in […]

Mortgage Crisis – the Case For Regulations

This writer is a fiscal conservative who believes THE GOVERNMENT should simply do their job.  Partisan politics shake out like this – The Democrats act like the Government is the mission – and the Republicans think the Government has no mission.  They are both frustratingly wrong.  The Bush Administration’s Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson is leading […]

Huckabee’s Hope for Future

Son, Mitt Romney has ‘suspended’ his quest for the Presidency. He is showing his business acumen. Large amounts of money have been invested in a marketing campaign that failed to sell the Bosco. Romney knows that he would be throwing good money after bad. So what does this do to the Republican nomination process? These […]

Conservatives support Romney – Go Figure

Son, Mitt Romney is the guy who has changed most of his political positions to run for President.  Conservative, by definition, does not like change – Go Figure! He did not like Ronald Reagan.  He supported a woman’s right to choose.  He raised taxes.  He supported State sponsored health care.  He shot a rabbit one […]

Huckabee uspsets the apple cart

Son, The conservative talk radio jabber has been all about how McCain is not conservative enough.   Vote for Romney they said.  Wee – their strategy is only half working.  The conservative voters are supporting Huckabee. If the trends continue we will have a three man race in the Republican Party.  I am happy for […]

McCain Supporters torpedo Romney in W. VA.

Son, The West Virginia Republican primary came to an interesting head today. Mitt Romney got the most votes – but not 50%. Huckabee was second and McCain a distant third. The McCain supporters joined ranks with the Huckabee folks and they managed a 52% victory – denying Romney a victory. This is in-your-face politics. Dad

Saturday Night Live parodies Mitt Romney

Son, Those folks at Saturday Night Live are just hilarious.  They took a real Mitt Romney video advertisement and added laugh tracks.  The infusion of simple laughing changes the entire message. The humor points out the value of audio.  Listening to this makes me wonder about the background music used in political commercials. One might […]

Republican Debate, 1-29-08

Son, The Republican debate is on CNN tonight. It is being hosted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. John McCain, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, and Mike Huckabee are participating. I missed a few minutes because of a black tie affair that I could not get out of. The question is what about 100 year involvement […]

Obama is shaping the national debate

Son, Giuliani was on television tonight – talking about the need to overcome the idea of red states and blues states, noting that we have to be united. Romney is on right now – talking about a new generation of problems.  New technologies and new competitors on the world market.  “We must leave our children […]

McCains wins Florida – huge for his candidacy

Son, Based on exit polling – John McCain has scored a huge victory. His totals look like they will come in around 31%. It is huge because this give confidence to the people with the money. More money translates into being able to better distribute their message before the Super Tuesday Primaries – one week […]

Boring Republicans run a 1994 Campaign

Son, Much of the media attention is given to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Why is that? Fox news would say it is because the media is too liberal. If the Republicans would ever say anything new perhaps they would be in the news. My notion is that the Republicans are so darn boring. Listen […]

Racism, just another campaign challenge

Son, The media is in a big toot about Racism.  Bill Clinton dismissed Obama’s victory in South Carolina by stating that Jesse Jackson won there in 1984 and 1988.  The implication was that Barack Obama is just another black man.  The media interprets this as an attempt to minimize Obama by Clinton. Well duh!  What […]

GOP Predictions – McCain and Romney

Son, After the Florida primary the Republican field will shrink. Two candidates will emerge as the front runners. McCain and Romney. McCain will be seen as the establishment candidate. Thompson, Huckabee, and Giuliani will line up with McCain. Ronmey will run as the outsider. He will run as the Republican of change. Not a bad […]

Republican Debate, 1-24-08

Son, Brian Williams is on stage to moderate his biased colleague Tim Russert. The Republicans are at it. These folks are much less inspiring than the Democrats. Is this because I don’t believe that any one of these men will be elected President. Perhaps. At any rate the Republican debate is at times boring. Mike […]

Grief – an Emotional Response to the Economy

Son, I am suffering the stock market drop. My portfolio for retirement has been devastated. The emotion is gripping. As I pondered my own reaction I realized that I am suffering a grief response. McCain Wins SC, Huckleberry is second

Son, This is an exciting day in Republican politics.  John McCain, my choice among Republicans, has won South Carolina.  South Carolina consistently picks the Republican nominee.  So today is a good day for America. Huckleberry Huckabee continues to show strength – and that represents an awful trend in America.  Huckleberry is a religious fanatic who […]

Romney first, Paul Third – a message is sent

Son, Mitt Romney has won in Nevaadaa.  But Ron Paul was Third.  What does this say?  Does this mean anything going into the future? Romney will toot his horn as winning another Gold Medal – a boring an overused metaphor.  This win does tell us that the Mormons will support this man – even though […]

Morning Joe degrades bloggers

Son, Joe Scarborough speaks without thinking. He operates out of biased paradigms that are fostered by the good old boys club at MSNBC. First of all – what is a blogger. Well, […]

Optimism, realism, and leadership

Son, Martin Luther King, Jr. has returned to the news. Republican Debate – 1-10-08

Rudy Giuliani hopes to be Chief Bomb Sniffer. […]

John McCain wins New Hampshire

Son, I am relieved.  John McCain is the best chance the GOP has of getting my vote.  No – I don’t support the war in Iraq – but I like to think of myself as a multi issue voter.  He has won New Hampshire in spite of Mitt Romney spending a small fortune.  Ronmey’s loss […]

The Fresh Innocence of Obama

General Mood versus Individual Issues

Son, Statistics rule. The current political campaign for President highlights this truth. All of us pundits have been somewhat befuddled. But not as befuddled as the candidates themselves. Leader or Expert – Choosing a President

Son, Mitt Romney claims that leadership is more important than expertise on topic. “They are looking for judgment, wisdom, willingness to reach out to others, gaining the right information to make choices… Instead of asking who has the most expertise we should be asking who has the most executive leadership experience…. ” Very interesting points. Huckabee is a win for John McCain

Son, John McCain is the real winner tonight, this caucus night in Iowa.   Mike Huckabee polled the largest numbers of support- soundly putting Mitt Romney in his appropriate place – way don there somewhere.  But McCain is the real winner because the Republican Party does not want Huckabee. Anybody but Huckabee

Son. It looks like Mike Huckabee is taking the first turn with a lead in the race. But my thought is that Huckabee appeals to a small but enthusiastic audience. The Mormon Bible – and Mitt Romney

The politics of admitting mistakes

Son, Several candidates for President have long histories.  Many of them have run for other offices like Senator, or Governor, or Mayor.  In the process of seeking those offices they necessarily catered to the limited population of their respective ambitions.  Romney and Giuliani were pro-choice.  Giuliani has been married three times.  Huckabee raised taxes.  Clinton […]

Republican CNN YouTube Debate – November 28

Son, A new event is happening in America. The CNN YouTube Presidential Debate. I am skeptical but hopeful. I remember the first televised debate between Kennedy and Nixon in 1960.
