Family systems

Son,

Our family system is one of intelligent people. We don’t always act like it – but most of us have the intellect expected of 21st Century educated Americans. Every now and then you will hear a nugget of wisdom from someone close to us. So why is it not consistent, and why is there so little evidence in our daily lives?

Most people are good thinkers (even those folks in prison) – so why do they think goofy things. I submit that our thoughts are processed through the net of our life experience. If our life experience is one of brutal negative put-downs – then one might expect that our interpretation of a new life experience might be one of suspicion and anxiety – leading to a poor response with poor behavior. If our life experience has been dominated by love and kindness – then one might expect that our interpretation of a new life experience might be one of understanding and forgiveness – leading to an assertive and positive behavior.

Her is my question to our readers: If what I just said is true – how can we change our perspective from negative to positive? (I have a suggestion – but I will wait for commentary.)

Dad
