Meet the Reverend, Fred Phelps
The ‘Reverend’ Fred Phelps is an example of religion gone haywire. He is a man much like Osama Bin Laden, using a legitimate faith to justify his hate. But is he really so unusual in America?
Christianity is blasphemed by people who use that brand of faith as justification for separating and dividing people. The seeking of righteousness is noble. But here is the problem – when the only manner of being right is in the condemnation of others. The logic is simple, if not articulated: In order to be OK in America – we must make others not OK.
This logic is not limited to Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church. Phelps is merely an extreme example of self righteous faith. This distortion of Christianity is not about rising to the challenge of being like Jesus, it is about making sure that no one else can ascend the steep slope of spirituality.
Faith falters when it attacks others. Is that what I am doing in this post? Like Fred Phelps, I am merely trying to distinguish myself from those I disagree with. The vicious circle of righteousness continues as we try to grab the brass ring of truth.
Does anyone really possess the ultimate truth – or are we all just spitting into the wind?

Fred Phelps wouldn’t make a pimple on a true Christians butt. He claims his “peaceful demonstrations” are about Americans acceptance of homosexuality. He just wants to spit on the graves of young men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice so he and his cronies can run around saying look at me, I’m somebody. If he is a true follower of Christ then my turds are gold bars.

Matthew 5:22 “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.”
