How Do We Characterize A Person As A Terrorist?

The recent bombing attempt in Times Square, in the middle of Manhattan, was a near miss for the United States.  (And certainly for Saturday evening theater goers in New York).  The bomb failed to discharge, an alert street vendor alerted police, a hastened search led to Faisal Shahzad, a 30-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan.  […]

Dead Body Found in Woods

I am cleaning my office.  Stacks of paper, piles of books, new book shelves – there is not enough room.  So I am compelled to throw something away.  This ritual is not done arbitrarily – I have to look at everything and rethink the value.  I came across an old news clipping.  It has no […]

Rednecks Talk Intelligent Design

I stopped in the General Store this morning.  When I walked through the door I was wondering, why does Billy Ray call this store ‘General.’  I know he was from the South and his relatives fought in the war with the North – maybe one of them was a General or something.  Anyway, before I […]

The Threat of Fascism in 21st Century America

Fascism – a scary word.  Most of us do not know what fascism means – we just feel certain it has something to do with a bad method of government or of economic systems.  Fascism is a word like Communism or Socialism or Marxism – we don’t feel the need to understand the exact meaning […]

Legal Mexican Disguises To Avoid Arrest

There is a misconception across this country that Mexican-Americans in Arizona can be arrested for looking like a Mexican without a driver’s license.  An arrest could happen – but there are measures, completely legal, to avoid unnecessary arrest.  We recommend simple disguises to thwart the Sheriff and his Deputies. We begin with the standard Groucho […]

Missouri Bureaucracy Fumbles The Ball

Modern government is a real enigma, particularly in Missouri.  We all agree that we need government, but we all want “the gov’ment” to leave us alone.  In many ways conservative and liberals are alike – no one wants big brother government – but everyone wants equality and protection.  Everyone hates bureaucracy – but everyone also […]

Immigration – A Self Correcting Union

“We the People of the United States of America, in order to form a more perfect union…. ”  The preamble to the Constitution of the United States does not claim perfection – but rather seeks a government format that can progress toward a more perfect union.  The political label ‘progressive’ has been dissed for many […]

Was Sarah Pa-ling Born In China?

This just in from the Nomadic View:   Sarah Palin was born in China.  The evidence is mounting.  Why did Sarah Pa-ling resign as Governor of Alaska?  What are the residency requirements in Alaska?  Just what is Sarah Pa-ling’s story? Latino Food Section At Walmart, As Seen By A Redneck

Down the road in St. Joe, Mo, there is a pig processing plant.  I think they slaughter like 2,000 pigs a day – and it takes a gob of Mexicans to get the job done.  They have about 2,500 workers, about one fourth of which are either Hispanic, Latino, or just plain old Mexican.   Most […]

The Problem With Liberals 1965 – 2010

After the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 the liberals of both parties felt emboldened.  They were ready to challenge the fertile ground of poverty, aging, war, college education, and woman’s rights.  These were and are noble issues.  By some definitions the liberal movement of that era was quite successful.  But there were some […]

Good Children Vs Insurrectionists

Sense Of Inadequacy Follows Us All The Days Of Our Lives

Any self concept, any value, any perspective, learned in youth – through osmosis – follows us all the days of our lives. We often have a sense of right and wrong, which we sometimes call this our conscience, based on prejudiced childhood learning.

The Federal Government is BIG Because Locals Are Not Responsible

The big toot in the news today (and for the past forty year) has been anti-Big Government.  Ronald Reagan swept the electorate on his charge that ‘Government is the problem.’  We have to ask why.  Why has our Federal Government grown to such a behemoth?  The answer is really quite simple – it is because […]

Regaining Respect for the Office of the Presidency.

We, in this country, have a proud history of respect for the office of the President. We rally around those who inspire us and lead us through troubled times. We have worked to separate the man from the office, and we have been successful in the past. There have always been jokes about the President, and comedians are supposed to push the envelope, to go where you don’t expect them to go. Something has changed, however, in the last decade. Where there was once reverence for the office and a certain degree of respect for the man in the White House, there is now complacency about the treatment of the Presidency. In previous generations, bad jokes about the President would have been met with a frown or, at best, a nervous chuckle. But today, the Presidency is the bread and butter of late night routines and gets only slightly better treatment in the mainstream media.

Why the Health Care Reform Bill Passed

This is an issue of public opinion, and it is an issue that has been long considered by the public and their representatives. It is a political hot potato, and the potato has landed in the hands of the Obama administration. The reason that the previous administration did not address the issue with proposed legislation is that they were fully aware that any attempt at trying to solve the problem is most likely political suicide.
