Kansas Loses to North Iowa
In the upset of the decade number one ranked Kansas lost to Northern Iowa in the second round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. What happened? Northern Iowa won – that is what happened. They hit the shots when it counted. Their three point shooting was spectacular and knocked Kansas out of any rhythm. The stunning […]

Sam Brownback (an appropriate name for this man) is busy covering his tracks. He is a Republican Senator from the great state of Kansas. Senator Brownback ran for President and brought the morque of the Republican candidates down about 20 points. (Morque is the scale of combined morals and IQ). Senator Brownback is in a big toot about potentially having the detainees at GITMO being moved to the Federal Prison at Leavenworth, Kansas.

This writer has a friend in the Kansas City Mafia. We have been invited to Thanksgiving Dinner. They are having an ‘Italian Thanksgiving.’ All of the food will be traditional Italian – she won’t give away the family secrets, but she did talk some about their food. She told us to be careful because she […]

We are going to Kansas City today to watch the NFL Chiefs fight for the dignity of Herm Edwards. There will be a gang of folks gathering together, the Chiefs are just an excuse to eat all things Italian. My favorite is the Italian Spaghetti Sauce. (Is that an oxymoron?) Herm may have cost the […]

There is a disaster unfolding in Kansas City, Missouri. It is not natural. It is hardly believable. The Kansas City Chiefs, the proud heritage of Lamar Hunt, are proving to be a huge embarrassment for everyone in Missouri who live west of the Mississippi. The Chiefs are the laughing stock of the sports world. It […]

This writer is a fair weather Kansas City Chiefs fan. But even mildly interested folks like myself are embarrassed again this year. The Kansas City Chiefs had one of the most potent offenses of this decade. Today we are watching a three quarterback rotation that no other team employs – Does Coach Herm Edwards understand […]

Rob Caldwell, a little known reporter from WCHS gave John McCain all he could take in this video interview. This writer has never heard of Mr. Caldwell or WCHS – but he did a masterful job of being polite while not letting McCain off the hook. There are several important elements in this interview, but […]

Son, The Washington Post is my favorite place to go for news and dialogue. They have produced a couple of compelling interviews in video form that are informative and interesting. I am compelled to share this information. These are good demonstrations of viable candidates for Vice President. Dad

Son, I was in my late teens, sitting on a Missouri River levy. There were three of us, drinking Kansas beer. 3.2 Alcohol. We were too young to drink in Missouri. My 56′ Chevy was parked on top of the levy, we were sitting on the bank of the river. The doors on my Chevy […]

Dad, Before I moved to Iowa, I would have said that corn was the number one thing that I think of when someone mentions the state. I now realize that Kansas has more corn than Iowa and that the caucus is more a defining characteristic of Iowa than the agriculture. I had never had the […]

Son, Atchison, Kansas, is a nice place to visit. But I live in Missouri and that usually means that I have to cross the Emelia Earhart Bridge. The bridge spans the muddy Missouri River. It is a steel truss bridge, built in 1937 by the WPA – the Works Progress Administration. As I drove the […]

Son, This was a big night in Missouri. The MU Tigers are going to the first Big 12 Championship Game in their history. They managed a win over the formidable Kansas Jayhawks. When I say managed, I mean that they took a forceful early lead and then managed the game. I don’t think the general […]

Son, Many years have passed since that last great border wars between Missouri and Kansas. The previous height of conflict was 150 some years ago. The United States Civil War smashed the last barriers of civility and the borders were on fire. Today’s conflict will be settled, we hope, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. […]

We have been reading a lot about fundamentalism of late. There is rhetoric abound about love vs. law. We tend to embrace the church of love and despise the church of law. Its just who we are. So, we are continually trying to reconcile our belief in the forces of love and our suspicion […]
