Illegal Immigrants and How to Not To Do Anything About It

I am a hoarder of information, documents, letters, email, etc. Today I was forced to dig into the my archives for information someone wants, someone who had it, but didn’t take care of it. Any who I digress. While digging into the ramparts of my OLD emails, I found this little gem, from May of […]

Early View of President Obama’s Legacy

In a couple of weeks, we the people of the United States of America shall elect someone to follow President Barack Obama as president of the United States.  This election is as important as 2008 when he was first elected and in 2012 when he was affirmed by the people with reelection.  President Obama is […]

Is Ted Cruz The Republican Obama?

Bear with me please.  Barack Obama stormed the castle in 2008.  He conquered the dragon – and no one saw it coming – well, perhaps Dick Durban.  But everyone today concedes that Obama is a masterful politician.  Like him or not, agree with him or not, Obama came to play hardball.  He came with masterful […]

Obama, Racism, And Gun Violence in South Chicago

A family buried their daughter today.  15 year old Hadiya Pendleton was killed earlier this week by that crazy phenomenon of irrational gun violence.  Did I mention that Hidiva was black?  Did we note she was killed on Chicago’s South Side – the epicenter of gun violence in new reports.  This is tough to talk […]

Drop Secret Service Protection, Arm The Candidates

FOX News is making a big toot about a recent law that bans protesting within a certain distance from anyone who is protected by the Secret Service.  FOX is proud to note that “Obama signed the Law” – as if the President acts alone in passing laws.  The Republican House passed the law.  The Democratic […]

2011 – Dawn of the 21st Century

On  September 11, 2001, the rooster crowed.  A new age was upon us but the world was slow to awaken.  Stumbling in the early morning darkness we knocked over two countries, alienated our friends, and disrupted world commerce.  The people of the United States have finally wiped the sleep from their eyes and the Dawn […]

Birther Bullstuff, Obama, Trump

Donald Trump with Meridith Vieira – This episode is a tragedy of American Journalism. Vieira let Trump ramble around without challenge. NBC should step up, as a network that claims professional journalism, and correct this travesty of justice. It is a travesty because millions of people get their world view from the NBC Today Show […]

The Obama Doctrine – Think, Feel, Act

There is a new sheriff in town.  He has decided to round up the rascals in Lybia.  President Obama is not inclined to act on feelings of insecurity – as we witnessed in the immediate past Administration.  Presidential Doctrine has been a subject of debate for about as long as there have been Presidents.  We […]

Repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

In 1993 Former President Clinton and the 103rd Congress implemented Title 10,654 otherwise known as the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy.  While there was some resistance, this was a great way to get bipartisan support on a delicate issue.  With every bill passed there will always be an inherent flaw, but for the most part […]

President Obama Teaches Kindergarten

President Obama is like a Kindergarten teacher – patiently bringing his pupils along.  We the pupils are not so patient.  This reminds me of a story about one of my grandchildren. Of Wars and Politics – Patraeus and Obama

War is a mystic business.   Mystic because there seems some supernatural quality required for agreement on strategy.  September 11, 2001, defined a moment – a moment of political cohesion.  Pearl Harbor served that role in WWII.  The Lusitania was the protagonist in WWI.  The battleship Maine served the focal point of the Spanish American War […]

The Cold Blooded, Calculated, Leadership of President Obama

The Need For A Really Big Government to Intervene in the Gulf

British Petroleum, along with their contractors, has created the worst environmental disaster in history.  But that does not clearly state the magnitude of the devastation.  We too often throw words around – words like environmental disaster – and then a real disaster strikes and we sound like the boy who cried wolf.  As President Obama […]

Obama’s American Revolution – 2010

Regaining Respect for the Office of the Presidency.

We, in this country, have a proud history of respect for the office of the President. We rally around those who inspire us and lead us through troubled times. We have worked to separate the man from the office, and we have been successful in the past. There have always been jokes about the President, and comedians are supposed to push the envelope, to go where you don’t expect them to go. Something has changed, however, in the last decade. Where there was once reverence for the office and a certain degree of respect for the man in the White House, there is now complacency about the treatment of the Presidency. In previous generations, bad jokes about the President would have been met with a frown or, at best, a nervous chuckle. But today, the Presidency is the bread and butter of late night routines and gets only slightly better treatment in the mainstream media.

Obama To Appoint Tina Fey To Supreme Court

Have you ever actually read a Supreme Court ruling?  Those stuffy old people are really boring.  Most of us don’t get what they are talking about – so we are left to our politicians to interpret for us.  That will no longer be the case when Obama appoints Tina Fey to the Supreme Court. Even […]

Social Solidarity in a Troubled World

When people suffer anxiety and fear, whether from physical insecurity, economic strife, or terrorism, they form what Robert Muchembled calls social solidarities. These systems of survival come in a variety of forms. Many folks form loose confraternities around causes: Global Warming, Abortion, Guns, Political Parties, Civil Rights, Feminism, Gay-Lesbian Rights, and even around faith based […]

Why the Health Care Reform Bill Passed

This is an issue of public opinion, and it is an issue that has been long considered by the public and their representatives. It is a political hot potato, and the potato has landed in the hands of the Obama administration. The reason that the previous administration did not address the issue with proposed legislation is that they were fully aware that any attempt at trying to solve the problem is most likely political suicide.

One year has passed. Barack Obama is President. The Patron Saint of Republicans is Rush Limbaugh – and Rush Limbaugh called for the failure of the new President. The word ‘angry’ is being thrown around with loose abandon.  Editorials across the free press note the ‘anger of the voters.’  There is legitimate anger.  But there is also illegitimate anger.   Does legitimacy make any difference?  Is anger the same whether legitimate or not?  Is an angry voter a rational voter? Is A Partisan America About to Lose The Future?

Petty squabbling is consuming The United States Government.  There is gridlock on Capital Hill.  It appears that most people in Congress are running for reelection in 2010 and their message is to blame the other party.  Is this leadership?  Is this the solution to the mounting problems of America?  We need only to look back […]

Partisanship – Conflicting Opinions or Theological Hatred?

Churchill negotiated a settlement in a Catholic/Protestant Ireland in the 1920’s. He later said that he knew he had been fair because neither party was happy with the results. It seems to us that we can know President Obama has been fair and non-partisan because both the left and the right are protesting his policies.

The Conscience Clause, Death Panels, and Health Care Reform

The idea of legalizing a medical conscience for Health Care providers originated with the debate around abortion.  The idea was simple enough: If a physician was morally opposed to abortion, he should be allowed to follow his conscious.  Fair enough.  But the conscience clause evolved under the Bush Administration, growing nasty tentacles of religious dogma.
