I think you are completely misunderstanding this comic strip and the intentions of its appearance here. This comic strip does not convey the attitude of the Fireside Post nor the artist.
What this represents are the inadequecies and ingnorance of uneducated limbaughish conservatives. I am a conservative myself and I find this quite funny.
What is going on is we have a man trying to find a reason not to vote for Obama and guns and religion are all he can muster because he is too ignorant to have any other justifications. He doesn’t care about the econonmy, education, epa or any other political platforms. Notice how he the man gets fired up over losing guns and religion. The boy says church is boring and the man recedes. He cares about religion about as much as he cares about manicures.

Well said Cole. Every now and then you have a spark of intellect. Satire and sarcasm completely escape some people. Fortunately – you are not one of them.
There are actually conservatives who use sound reasoning. One might say there are actually liberals who use sound reasoning.
But we live in a world today where sound reasoning struggle to prevail.
